HELPING WINGS DAY 1ST OCTOBER

flying
1st October Event
Forty local disadvantaged children flew in light aircraft around
the island of Jersey on Saturday 1st October - for many
their first experience of a light aircraft, for one young
flyer his very first flight. With the addition of parents or
carers and the occasional brother or sister, more than 100
passengers took to the air. The Helping Wings team of volunteers
organised this plus a full day for the children at the Jersey Aero
Club.
Activities included being an airport firefighter, a jet pilot,
and an artist. The airport fire service parked their fire trucks
and the Jet Provost trainer right outside the clubhouse, letting
the children scramble over them and pretend to operate the
equipment. Art teacher, Ann Morgan, helped the budding artists
create some great pictures of the aircraft, then awarding prizes to
the best. Chicano, the magician, had his young audiences
spellbound.
Throughout the day, the aero club buzzed with the activity of
excited young passengers being escorted to and from their aircraft.
Ian and Julie Le Sueur of Kandidprints were on hand to capture the
moment and give the families a souvenir of the day. Every child
received a Helping Wings bag containing a T shirt, mug, and much
more.
The day was made possible thanks to the efforts and fund raising
of the Helping Wings team together with the co-operation and
assistance of Jersey Airport. Thirteen pilots took part, two flying
over from theUKjust to help out. Thirty six flights were made in
all.
The event was enormously successful, reaching out to more groups
of children than ever before. The Helping Wings team would like to
say a huge thank you to all those who participated.
