RennesThe Gods were certainly smiling on the JAC on Saturday 26 January - the day of the first of the monthly fly-outs.

The fog over mainland France which had been forecast did not really materialise and the pilots of the six aircraft booked to go to Rennes could look forward to a day of light winds and CAVOK.

We had a short briefing for the flight the previous evening that coincided with the first monthly club dinner at the Millibar.

Jersey to Rennes might seem routine to some but if you are a new PPL, or simply have never before flown to a particular destination, then a few words of reassurance can be welcome.

Most of us were airborne around 10am, enabling us to arrive at Rennes for a late morning coffee before jumping into taxis to take us to the centre of the city.

Rennes is interesting and vibrant with a quaint old quarter, bold public buildings and an enormous selection of shops. In fact the credit cards escaped lightly as most of us got together at La Picca brasserie by the theatre.

Two to three courses later saw us take a breath of fresh air before the taxis took us back to the airport – early enough to make sure that we could all get back to Jersey before official nightfall.

A total of 25 club members enjoyed a great day out.

The next mission is planned for Saturday 23 February to Caen – another straightforward flight, about 45 minutes in a PA28, and another good destination.

Look out for more details and don’t miss it!

P.S. The club is offering great rates on its fleet for club trips...

  • PA28 (three aircraft reserved for each trip) - £90 per hour
  • GBAGG - £122 per hour
  • GBTYC - £69 per hour
