HELPING WINGS SEPTEMBER 2011 UPDATE
We are now in contact, through a similar UK based organisation
to Helping Wings, with a design company which is close to
finalising the required certification of a hand control. This
will enable a lower limbed disabled person to fully operate the
controls of a light aircraft. The devise is very quickly attached
and detached from the aircraft so allowing any pilot to use the
same plane.
Our next Helping Wings day for the children is scheduled for
Saturday 1st October, with a weather standby date of
Saturday 15th October.
Friday 23rd of September will see the official launch
of Helping Wings at the Jersey Aero Club. We are looking forward to
seeing lots of our Helping Wings members and supporters including
representatives of the charities we've already enjoyed working
with. It promises to be a great event!

The launch
At the Jersey Aero
Club - Friday 23
September 2011
6pm to 8pm
You are cordially invited to our
launch party. We hope you can join us.
The Helping Wings team is
delighted to announce that we have just received confirmation that
handicapped pilot Gautam Lewis will, weather permitting, be joining
us at our launch. Gautam, a polio sufferer, heads the UK
organisation Freedom in the Air. Not only is he an inspirational
character and pilot, he is leading a team from Cranfield in
designing, manufacturing, and gaining approval for hand controls to
allow lower limbed disabled pilots to fly light aircraft.
Gautam will be piloting himself to
Jersey in a specially adapted Cessna 172. He will be bringing with
him examples of hand controls to suit different aircraft.
Don't miss this opportunity to meet
Gautam and see his adapted aircraft and to see for yourself what is
now achievable.
We will be providing a welcome drink
and nibbles and look forward to seeing you all!
